DROP IN fundation (Methadone substitution centre)

- The centre employs 4 nurses, 2 psychiatrists and 1
social worker.
- Treatment philosophy is based upon harm reduction offering
maintenance programmes.
- The average dose of methadone prescribed is 100 mg.
- Currently the centre treats 30 patients, with a maximum
capacity of 100 patients.
- There is a waiting list of about 1 week (20 persons are on
it) there is no maximum duration of treatment.

- The centre demands:
- - daily attendance

- Non-attendance and violence can get patient expelled from
treatment. Patients are allowed to be absent 3 times a month (without any reason)

- Procedures for taking patient for a short time:
- The centre should be informed beforehand by fax, letter or
email -the best is digital signature of the physician/videomail.

- There are no costs involved.
- If a patient want to enter the programme on a
permanent basis the procedure are the same

- The centre uses a fully automatic system. There is a
dispense connected to a PC, the clients files are virtual. The identification is done
through a digital foto (we plan to get identification through fingertips if the number of
patients will get over 50). The clients can reach us through the internet/email. At the
moment we are upgrading videomail contact. Especially HIV+ and pregnant patients are
important for us.

- The identity of the patient is send to the Ministry of
Healthcare to make sure the patient will not encounter legal problems in case there is a
different policy on methadone of the country that is being visited.
