The Edward Myers unit
The centre offers 8 beds for the in-patient programme. employs 30 professionals of which, 5 psychiatrists/doctors and 20 nurses.
Treatment philosophy is based upon detoxification and relapse prevention. The average dose of methadone prescribed is 50 mg.
Currently the centre treats 250 patients (outpatient) with a maximum capacity of 300 patienst.
The maximum duration of treatment is based upon the reduction programme (no maintenance is being offered). There is a waiting list of approximately 4-6 weeks.
 
The centre offers:

- community support; home detoxification
 
The centre demands:
- urine checks
- weekly attendance
 
Non-attendance, violence and repeated relapse/non compliance can get patients expelled from treatment.

The centre has links with non statutory and criminal justice agencies. There is a pregnant drug user service, a young persons service (away from centre), primary care services -working with GP services; supervised prescribing, offer crime testing for GP's.
Pharmacy identified by individual client collected on daily basis, write test once weekly and andom as required. Due to comerce pilot studies on subutex/bulrenorphine short detox program offer birtlofex as in patient programme.

Clients should bring enough methadone with them for the first few days they are in Coventry. A letter from their GP or prescribing agency, confirming amount and daily dose, should be brought to avoid custom difficulties. Coventry CDT is committed to continuity of care and will attempt to provide a similar level of service to that provided in the clients home country. Some French and polish is spoken.
