In Graubunden 160 patients are being treated. The system is based on doctors' willing to prescribe Methadone to a drug department. The indication-drug supervision centre and methadone-treatment have to allow treatment, than the patient is send to the kantonsarzt.

Per doctor's office 4-6 patients receive treatment.  Treatment philosophy is based upon harm reduction offering detoxification and maintenance programmes. The average dose of methadone prescribed is 40-60 mg. There is no waiting list.

 

For treatment the following is demanded:

- daily attendance

- monthly urine checks

- mandatory meetings with social work

 

Violence, non attendance, relapse, severe polytoxicomanie and illegal drug dealing can get patient expelled from treatment.

 

Procedures for taking patient for a short time:

The centres need to be informed by letter or fax beforehand.

The information necessary is:

- identity

- treatment history

- dose

 

When visiting the patient has to bring a letter from his doctor.

There are no costs involved.

 

If patient want to enter the programme on a permanent basis the intake criteria are different, here a fully entrance procedure is needed.
