Methadone treatment has to be approved by the Kantonsarzt, application is done by letter with the remark "Vertraulich/M" ("confidential/M").
General Practitioners, who are involved in the methadone programme, pharmacies and medical institutions can dispense methadone.

The centre is a joint-venture of University Psychiatric Services Bern and Contact Foundation Bern. It offers a comprehensive treatment. 120 patients get their methadone on site, 80 patients in pharmacies.
Maximum dose 120 mg/d, if needed more.

Psychiatriezentrum Langenthal

The centre employs 2 nurses, 7 psychiatrists and doctors, 3 administrators, 1 manager.
Treatment philosophy of this centre is maintenance, harm reduction. The average dose of methadone prescribed is 50 mg.
Currently the centre treats 10 patients.
