The Drug Abuse System in the city of Copenhagen consist of 4 Regional Centres and a range of other treatment institutions which take care of drug abusers with special needs, for example pregnant addicts, addicts living with their children, very young drug abusers, homeless and HIV/AIDS infected drug abusers.

A total of 10 fulltime employed doctors are involved in the treatment of addicts, long-term methadone treatment as well as detox is offered.

 

We prefer that the patients from abroad bring their methadone from their native country, but we are willing to help patients temporary with their medical treatment, while they stay in Copenhagen under the following conditions:

- written information, one month before arrival, from the patients usual treatment system containing containing:

Name

Address

Date of birth

Address while staying in Copenhagen

If possible: small picture of patient

Information about medicine:name, dose and administration

Dates of arrival and departure to/from Copenhagen

 

The referring system (centre/doctor) will get an answer whether the Kobenhavns Kommune is able to treat the patient and if so, which doctor (name, address, phone number) will take care of the of the prescription while the patient temporarily stays in Copenhagen.

Methadone will be dispensed daily from a local pharmacy, in weekends there is a possibility of "take-home" doses. Dosage limit for methadone in Denmark is 120 mg.

Cost of treatment are 500 Danish crowns, paid directly to the doctor
