DROGENAMBULANZ DER WIENER UNIVERSITÄTSKLINIK FÜR PSYCHIATRIE
 
The centre employs 17 professionals of which 4 doctors, 4 psychiatrists, 4 nurses, 1 psychologist, 2 social workers, 1 administrator and a manager.
Treatment philosophy is based upon harm reduction offering maintenance programs. The average dose of methadone prescribed is 90 mg.
Currently the centre treats 800 patients, no limitation to the number of patients. The waiting list takes months. Treatment duration lasts for months.
 
The centre offers:
- medical care
- social assistance
- psychiatric care
- psycho-therapy
- oral Morphine substitution
- special target group: pregnant addicts, HIV/Aids patients
 
The centre demands:
- daily attendance
- urine checks
- mandatory meetings with social work
 
Non-attendance and violence can get patient expelled from treatment.
 
If patient want to enter the program on a long-term basis he/she has to belong to one of the target groups.
 
Procedures for taking patient for a short time:
The centre should be informed beforehand by letter.
The information necessary is:
- identity
- dose and period for which methadone is requested
- references where information can be checked
 
When visiting the patient has to bring a letter from his doctor.
The centre charges the provision of methadone to its own rates.
