DROGENAMBULANZ DER UNIVERSITÄTS KLINIK FÜR PSYCHIATRIE
 
The centre employs 7 professionals of which 2 psychiatrists, 3 nurses and 2 social workers.
Treatment philosophy is based upon harm reduction offering detoxification and maintenance programs. The average dose of methadone prescribed is 65 mg.
Currently the centre treats 200 patients, no maximum capacity.
There is no maximum duration of treatment and no waiting list.
 
The centre offers:
- medical care
- social assistance
- psychiatric care
- other medication
 
The centre demands urine checks.
Excessive dealing of drugs can get patient expelled from treatment.
 
If patients want to enter the program on a permanent basis there is a medical intake and social interview.
Procedures for taking patient for a short time:
The centre should be informed beforehand by letter or fax. Substitution cannot begin on weekends and is to be arranged a couple of days previous to the first visit.
 
The information necessary is:
- identity
- dose and period for which methadone is requested
- references where information can be checked
 
The provision of methadone is done by the Hospital or through a pharmacy. If the patient is stable it is possible to give take-home dosages for max. 7 days or give the dosage of methadone to a reliable co-traveller.
 
When visiting the patient has to bring a letter from his doctor if possible.
Costs can be arranged through insurance form E111 or ca. 300-600.= ATS.
The hospital is the only centre which is involved in the methadone substitution program in the whole region of Tirol.
