Euro-Methwork was an informal network, which was founded in 1994 by a group of European experts who were concerned about the slow introduction of methadone treatment in many European countries. It was also observed that existing programmes were sometimes of poor quality and that action was needed.

The activities of Euro-Methwork are financed through various sources

The overall coordination of Euro-Methwork was done by Ernst Buning, psychologist and general director of Quest for Quality BV (Q4Q) in the Netherlands.
